       Howard Scott Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by the American painter,  William Willis, opening on Thursday, January 15  and continuing through Saturday, February 21, 2015.

Willis paintings are influenced by a range of loves and interest including communion with nature; Buddhist and Taoist poetry and Eastern Philosophies; and shamanistic cultures; the great cave paintings of Southern France, the early Modernist and everything wild and sacred.

Painter William Willis (b. Sheffield, AL) has exhibited widely throughout the United States. His work is in numerous collections including the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Phillips Collection, the Tucson Museum of Art, and the Yale University Art Gallery. Willis has been a professor at University of Maryland, American University and Corcoran College of Art & Design and has been a visiting artist at various institutions and residency programs such as Brandeis University, School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Vermont Studio Center. Willis has received grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the NEA, Award-in the-Visual-Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council in his home state. Willis is currently the William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art at Georgia Regents University. He currently lives and works in Augusta, GA and Preston, MD.
